Ways to Save Money This Spring

Save Money This Spring

Spring has sprung once again, and with it comes new ways to save money!  As you are doing your spring cleaning, use these tips below to help you save a few dollars.

Wait to Turn on the A/C

The spring temperatures are so lovely, you can wait a few weeks to use your A/C.  Instead, open your windows and doors and enjoy the cool, refreshing spring air.  You should be able to roll down the windows of your car as well to save a few dollars on gas.  Refrain from using the heater as well, and throw on a light sweater instead.

Sell Your Things

As you are doing your spring cleaning, you inevitably will find items that you just don’t use anymore.  Instead of tossing them, sell them online at places like Craigslist, or at a local used clothing outlet like Plato’s Closet.  If you cannot sell the items, you can always donate them.  Make sure you keep track of what you donate as it can be used as a tax write off next year!

Clean Window and Door Tracks

Make sure that you take the time to clean your window and door tracks.  The dirt trapped in the track can create gaps in the window’s seal, allowing heat or cool air to escape.  Put a wet rag on a thin object like a butter knife, and clean out the grooves.

Dry Your Clothes Outside

Take advantage of the refreshing weather by drying your clothes in the cool spring air.  You will save money in three ways:  you won’t have to buy dryer sheets, you won’t use electricity to dry your clothes, and your A/C won’t have to work overtime to compensate for the extra heat from your dryer.  If you do choose to use your dryer, make sure that you clean the lint filter every time you use it to ensure that it is functioning at its peak.

Exercise Outdoors

The winter weather made exercising outside difficult and even dangerous.  With the fresh spring weather, you can finally go back outside to exercise.    Did you know that 67% of people have a gym membership and don’t even use it?  Why pay upwards of $50 a month for something that you won’t use?  Cancel your gym membership (saving quite a bit of money every month), and go outside. There are plenty of things to do, from hiking, biking, jogging, and even just taking a stroll through a local park.
