New Year, No Debt

Although the holidays are a happy season, filled with joy, it’s also a stressful season. By the time the end of December rolls around, your wallet may be hurting. You’re not alone. A lot of people find themselves dipping further into their savings for Christmas gifts than they’d anticipated, and it’s not uncommon to accumulate some debt around this time of year. Add this to your new year resolutions to get fit and be healthier, and you may feel like you’re at a loss and unable to afford a healthier lifestyle. You don’t have to go broke in order to achieve the results you’re seeking! Here are a few affordable options to consider for your new year fitness resolutions.

Choose an affordable fitness plan

Gym memberships are expensive. They usually advertise a low rate, but when you sign up there are all sorts of fees you weren’t expecting. It usually requires a contract, meaning you’ll be tied down for at least a year, and even past the initial year, cancelling a gym membership is a hassle. All of this means, a gym membership could be a huge strain on your bank account. Fitness is important, and if a gym membership seems like the right route for you, wait until February or March to sign up. If you’re still committed to the idea once the new year frenzy has died down, it may be a good investment.

Instead of opting for a monthly fee at a gym, think about purchasing an in-home workout plan. There are a lot of guides and apps out there that have a one time fee and you’ll be able to perform all of the workouts at home. If you feel like doing the workouts at home won’t motivate you, share the cost of the guides with a friend, and keep each other accountable.

Purchase more produce

Produce is a lot less expensive than a lot of people think. Try a plant-based diet, which will end up costing you a lot less than you’d think. Produce is also a great snack. Most snack foods is deceptively expensive; think about how much you spend weekly on things like chips, cookies, and crackers. Adding more fruits and vegetables into your diet will help you shed pounds while not breaking the bank. The fiber that’s naturally found in produce will aid digestion, which also helps with weight loss.
